In relation to the promotion of the agency’s upgrading program, the Department of Agriculture – National Dairy Authority Southern Luzon Department (NDA-SLD) conducted upgrading activities last May 15-19, 2022 in the province of Palawan spearheaded by Dr. Gabriel L. Lagamayo with Mr. Jomark Masongsong.
The upgrading activity was conducted at JO-SA Goat Farm in the Municipality of Roxas where Mr. Masongsong led the stocks selection which will be subjected for Estrus Synchronization (ES) and Artificial Insemination (AI). A total of forty-two (42) dairy goats were inseminated with the assistance of Mr. Jean Lou Sandoval, Animal Technician from the City Veterinary Office – Puerto Princesa City.
Additional five (5) heads of goats were also selected and inseminated at the Livestock Resource Center (LRC) at Brgy. Irawan, Puerto Princesa City through the request of Mr. Gomer Decano, OIC-Senior Research Specialist II, which intends to have genetic improvement of the existing herd through the use of dairy semen.
A brief orientation-workshop on Record Keeping with the farm workers of JO-SA Goat Farm and LRC Technical staff was also conducted which covered Herd Inventory, Breeding, Kidding, Reduction activities, Health Management and Milk Production.
More so, an orientation on the mandate and programs of NDA which was transpired at the Office of the Governor and attended by different department heads headed by the Governor-Elect, Hon. Dennis Socrates. Part of the discussion was the plan to have a Memorandum of Understanding between the Provincial Government of Palawan and the NDA to include dairy development in their priority programs. Also, Dr. Lagamayo requested for the assistance particularly on the ease of logistics of frozen semen and breeding paraphernalia to the province and in the Dairy Herd Build Up program of the agency.
