Last March 22, 2022, the National Dairy Authority – South Luzon Department (NDA-SLD) spearheaded the Artificial Insemination (AI) Technicians’ Forum which was participated by different AI Technicians and Coordinators from South Luzon areas.

It was a simultaneous activity in four (4) venues: 1. Puerto Princesa City, Palawan; 2. Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro; 3. Pili, Camarines Sur; and 4. Tiaong, Quezon. To accommodate more participants, the forum was also open via virtual platform. A total of eighty-eight (88) participants attended the said forum.

Experts were invited to share their knowledge through pre-recorded videos. Dr. Jose Arceo N. Bautista, Retired Professor II, and Dr. Agapita J. Salces, Assistant Professor 7, University of the Philippines – Los Baños were the resource persons. Dr. Bautista had a Refresher Course on Artificial Insemination on Large Ruminants and Dr. Salces presented the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development’s (PCCARD) Summary of Findings on NDA Dairy Monitoring System’s (DMS) Data.

Also part of the forum was the Orientation on the NDA Programs and the usage of Girolando in Upgrading and Sexed Semen which was presented by Dr. Gabriel L. Lagamayo, NDA-SLD OIC. While Mr. Harry V. Salubayba, Project Development Officer III provided the Updates on South Luzon’s Breeding Program and presented Handling and Maintenance of Frozen Semen and Equipment.

To assess the participants’ skills, demonstration on the handling of semen and AI Techniques were done by some participants. After the presentation and demo, an Open Forum was facilitated by Dr. Feddik Antonette J. Serrano, Assistant Manager Designate.

The said forum aimed to strengthen the Herd Build Up Program and Upgrading activities by the agency through collaboration and coordination with AI Technicians and Coordinators in South Luzon areas.
