
Quezon City – In observance of Nutrition Month, the Department of Agriculture – National Dairy Authority (DA-NDA) conducted a cooking demonstration and tasting activity at Barangay Project 6, Quezon City on July 13, 2022.
This year’s theme “New normal na nutrisyon, sama-samang gawan ng solusyon!” calls for strengthened nutrition interventions and solidarity towards nutrition improvement as the country shifts towards living with the COVID-19 virus.
As part of the Nutrition Month Celebration, the NDA prepared an activity that can promote the use and health benefits of local fresh milk as well as introduce a new source of income for the participants. The participants are composed of senior citizens, barangay staff, street sweepers and housewives of Barangay Project 6.
Using locally produced fresh milk as the main ingredient, NDA Laboratory Technician Ms. Ellamay Melanio, led a cooking demonstration of Kesong Puti (White Cheese), a soft, unaged, white cheese made from unskimmed milk and salt curdled with vinegar and Choco Milk, a chocolate-flavored milk made by mixing cocoa with fresh milk.
During the step-by-step demonstration, Ms. Melanio explained the health benefits of consuming milk and milk products, particularly the locally produced ones. Right after the demonstration, the residents were able to try the Kesong Puti and Choco Milk and expressed their delight with it.
Celebrated every July by virtue of Presidential Decree 491, Nutrition Month aims to create greater awareness on the importance of nutrition among Filipinos.
