The Department of Agriculture-National Dairy Authority (DA-NDA), spearheaded by the NDA Food Safety Team led by Mr. Lennard Bryle Rosal held a series of activities for the World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW) 2002 today, November 18, 2022.
The activities highlighted this year’s theme of “Sama-samang magtulungan upang antimicrobial resistance ay mapigilan.” Through this, the DA-NDA urged its employees and dairy stakeholders to work together to ensure the responsible use of antimicrobials, to promote good animal husbandry practices and to strengthen capacity in monitoring and surveillance to reduce effects of antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
The World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW) is a global campaign to raise Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) awareness to reduce the emergence and spread of drug-resistant pathogens. AMR endangers animal health and welfare, as well as food production and economies. Microorganisms that are resistant to antibiotics circulate in humans, animals, and the environment. Further, these resilient microorganisms have no boundaries, which makes AMR a public health and global concern.
The WAAW is celebrated on November 18-24, 2022.
