Mallig is a fourth class municipality in the province of Isabela that has much to offer. Behind this modest rural area is a progressive dairy farm managed by one of the Department of Agriculture-National Dairy Authority’s (DA-NDA) assisted cooperatives, the Mallig Dairy Cooperative (MDC). MDC’s farm boasts of a modern infrastructure, cattle shed, herringbone milking parlor, large bunker that can store 360,000 kilos corn silage, and a mechanical hoof trimmer.
To date, MDC’s farm has an inventory of 157 head of dairy cattle (heifer, dams and calves) producing an average of about 500 liters a day. The total land area utilized is 101 hectares while additional areas are still being prepared for expansion for their corn silage production. At present, MDC serves as one of the suppliers of the Milk Feeding Program implemented by the Department of Education (DepEd) in partnership with DA-NDA.
