NDA celebrates 25th Foundation Anniversary

The National Dairy Authority (NDA) celebrated its 25th Foundation Anniversary in a series of activities held on March 10-12, 2020 at the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) Compound in Quezon City.

Gracing the opening ceremonies was Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary William D. Dar as the Guest of Honor and Keynote Speaker, together with DA Assistant Secretary for Livestock William C. Medrano, and other government officials.

Speaking before around 300 dairy partners and farmers from different parts of the country, Secretary Dar underscored the importance of increasing dairy herd inventory to meet the local milk demand.

He directed the NDA to double its efforts in boosting the local dairy industry’s output and to strengthen partnerships with the private sector.

On the other hand, he urged the private sector to support local farmers by pushing dairy development initiatives in every province in the country.

He said that private entities that will bring in improved breeds for dairy production will be given incentives.

He also mentioned that a credit window facility with two to four percent interest rates under the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) would be made available to support the sector.

Aside from the Secretary’s keynote message, the opening ceremonies was also highlighted by the presentation of NDA’s accomplishments by Administrator Marilyn B. Mabale; opening of booths showcasing dairy products from different regions of the country; recognition of government partners; messages of support from dairy farmers; awarding of ISO certification 9001:2015 to NDA Visayas and Northern Mindanao Departments; cultural dance performances by NDA employees; and a ceremonial milk toast.

Other activities staged during the week-long anniversary celebration include a thanksgiving mass, inauguration of the new NDA-Central Office Laboratory, dairy farmers’ forum, farmers’ dairy quiz, free seminars, techno-demo, employees’ sports fest, Gender and Development (GAD) seminar, and recognition of loyalty awardees.

Anchored on the theme “Sapat, Ligtas at Masustansyang Gatas para sa Ani at Kitang Mataas,” the event highlighted the agency’s goal of ensuring the availability of safe and nutritious milk while also pursuing increased productivity and profitability of dairy farmers.
