The Department of Agriculture (DA) and its livestock agencies composed of the Agricultural Training Institute- International Training Center on Pig Husbandry (ATI-ITCPH), Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI), National Dairy Authority (NDA), National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS), and Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) in coordination with the Provincial Government of Bohol and the Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR), staged the 1st Livestock Technology Expo on October 7-10, 2018 at the Bohol Cultural Center in Tagbilaran City.
Simultaneously held with the 4th National Carabao Conference and the 4th Bohol Milk Festival, the livestock expo provided a platform for knowledge-sharing on the latest technologies and practices on livestock production.
Senator Cynthia Villar, chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Food, served as the event’s Guest of Honor. Aside from giving her keynote address, she also took time viewing the various booths and joined the free milk taste activity which the NDA took part in as well.
The event likewise served as an opportunity for the government agencies to share with the industry stakeholders the different livestock programs that they offer. For the part of NDA, Ms. Monina Mangubat, Officer-in-Charge (OIC), Regional Manager of the Visayas Department, gave a presentation on the NDA Communal Farming Scheme. The NDA Visayas Department also set up their booth where staff entertained the expo visitors’ inquiries on the programs and services of the agency.
Various farmers also took turns in presenting the technologies they adopted. One of them was Mr. Aberdovey Belleza, former vice Mayor of Talisay City, Cebu and is now a NDA-assisted cattle farmer who manages his own farm in Ubay. Just as soon as becoming interested in dairy farming, Mr. Belleza sent the NDA a letter of intent in 2015. He now delivers milk to the Bohol Milk Processing Complex.
Bohol Province, through the efforts of Gov. Edgar Chatto, issued an executive order for milk to be served as a welcome drink and approved plans and studies for the Institutionalization of the Bohol Dairy development Program. Provincial marketing advocacies include milk feeding, farm tours and participation in milk festivals.
