Locals of Antique will now have additional means of income as Senator Loren Legarda officially launched the Antique Dairy Development Program, an initiative which aims to boost the province’s local milk production and generate livelihood opportunities for its people.
Sen. Legarda, who has been a staunch advocate of livelihood projects and is presently the Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, had allotted funds for the purchase of breeding stock under the budget of the National Dairy Authority (NDA).
“Thirty million pesos po ang ating iniliaan para sa ating dairy program para magkaroon ng kabuhayan ang ating mga magsasaka,” Sen. Loren Legarda said in her message during the launch.
The NDA, through the senator’s funding support, has already distributed 52 heads of pregnant dairy heifers to a total of 19 dairy farmers in Antique who, to date, have produced 22 calves and some 29,379 liters of milk since the NDA’s initial dispersal made on January 10, 2018.
Aside from increasing people’s incomes through dairy cattle and milk production, the dairy development program will also entail the establishment of dairy enterprises, conduct of capacity building activities for farmers and implementation of milk feeding program for children.
The launch, which coincided with the delivery of 24 heads of pregnant dairy heifers from Primas Dairy Multiplier Farm, was graced by NDA Administrator Marilyn B. Mabale and Antique Governor Rhodora Cadiao. It was held on September 27, 2018 at the Liberman Gymnasium, Pandan, Antique.
