21st Dairy Congress and Exposition kicks off in Bohol

Continuing its mission to promote and expand the dairy sector, the Dairy Confederation of the Philippines (DairyCon) held its 21st Dairy Congress and Expo (DairyConEx) on March 23-25, 2018 at the Bohol Cultural and Convention Center, Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

 With the theme “Moving Towards Milk Self-Sufficiency”, the three-day congress aimed to provide a platform for the dairy farmers to create synergy, expand networks and share knowledge on the strategies, best practices and latest technologies that would allow them to boost their milk production.

Dignitaries at the DairyConEx were Bohol Governor Edgar M. Chatto, DairyCon National Chairman Isidro V. Albano, National Dairy Authority (NDA) Administrator Marilyn B. Mabale, Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) Director Arnel N. del Barrio, Senator Cynthia Villar’s Chief of Staff Atty. Reggie Tamana, Ambassador of Israel to the Philippines Effie Ben Matityau, and Embassy of Canada Trade Commissioner Angel Cachuela.

A series of insightful lectures and presentations was provided during the congress focusing on relevant topics such as dairy animal production, forage and pasture development, feeds and feeds management, dairy farm mechanization, dairy development researches, marketing of milk and milk products, and financing programs for the dairy farmers.

The event also featured exhibits joined by government agencies and private companies which showcased a selection of their latest products, services, innovations and technology in dairy farming. On the last day of the congress, the delegates went on an educational tour at the Ubay Bohol Stock Farm.

Over 600 delegates composed of dairy farmers, government extension and financing institutions, private investors, the academe, commercial processors and different stakeholders from all over the country participated in this year’s DairyConEx.

The event was made possible with the help of several agencies namely the Department of Agriculture (DA), NDA, PCC, Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI), Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council of Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRDD), Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP), Universal Harvester Dairy Farm (UHDFI), Promat Canada, ACDI Multipurpose Cooperative (ACDI) and VITARICH.
