Farmer-members of St. Martin Small Ruminants Farmers Association are no longer spending much of their resources delivering their milk since the recent turnover of the two milk vans from the Department of Agriculture-National Dairy Authority (DA-NDA) last December 2021. The vans are now used to collect and transport raw milk from their respective farms to the processing center where milk is tested, pasteurized and packed into bottles or made into soap.
St. Martin Small Ruminants Farmers Association is an NDA-assisted dairy cooperative in Maasin, Iloilo, which was organized by Father Rafael Luis Clavel in 2020. Knowing fully well that an idle mind is the devil’s playground, Fr. Clavel managed to lease a lot where he established a dairy farm and encouraged men and women, and indigenous people to engage in dairying to keep them occupied and earning.
