Experts from the Czech Republic Development Cooperation and the Department of Agriculture-National Dairy Authority (DA-NDA) conducted a 2-day training on creating selected dairy products and on transferring scientific knowledge through appropriate language and fora. This was participated by NDA-Northern Luzon Department (NDA-NLD) project development officers (PDOs), dairy farmers and dairy processors.
Czech dairy experts Dr. Blanka Krivankova, Dr. Veronika Legarova and Dr. Miljan Erbez dedicated the first day in giving a demonstration and training on making kiefer, probiotic milk, yoghurt, acidophilic milk and cheese, and a discussion on the importance of nutrition in dairy processing. Dr. Legarova led the demonstration by letting the farmers and dairy processors perform the workflow of each dairy product. On the other hand, Dr. Erbez focused the discussion on nutrition and its importance to dairy farmers and NDA PDOs.
The second day was dedicated to the PDOs of NDA in which Dr. Krivankova and Dr. Erbez initiated the discussion on being an effective extensionist between science and the farmers. They have focused on tackling the problems specific to the transfer of technology per area and per PDO and have devised approaches necessary and appropriate to each concern. Finished dairy products were also sampled out in the afternoon.
NDA Administrator Farrell Benjelix Magtoto and Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) Assistant Director Jonathan Sabiniano also graced the activity and imparted inspiring messages to the participants. This training is the first leg of the two-week program of Czech Development Cooperation in the Philippines and an off-shoot activity of the “Aid for Trade” project of the same team back in 2018 and 2019.
